The present lighthouse was completed in 1842. South of Tallahassee, this beautiful landmark sits at the mouth of the St. Mark?s river, on the north side of Apalachee Bay, in the 65,000 acre St. Mark?s National Wildlife Refuge.
One of the loveliest lighthouse settings along any coast, these waters teem with fish, oysters, birds, alligators, and a history of Spanish settlers, Indians, Confederate War action, storms, and idyllic living by generations of light keepers. Grounds are open to the public.
